Justin Rose lost the Masters in a playoff on Sunday for the second time in his career, and he was once again gracious in defeat.
Rose played well throughout the entire tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. He was the leader after the opening round and the best player on the course for most of Sunday. Rose shot a six-under 66 in the final round and ended up in a sudden-death playoff against Rory McIlroy after McIlroy missed a short par putt on the 18th hole.
McIlroy then birdied then sudden-death hole to beat Rose and win the Green Jacket. The loss was the second for Rose in a playoff at Augusta National, as he was defeated by Sergio Garcia in the same scenario back in 2017.

Rose shared a classy message on social media after his disappointing finish.
“I gave it everything … Congratulations @McIlroyRory on winning the @TheMasters and completing the Grand Slam.. very cool sharing the green with you in that moment… Thank you Team,” Rose wrote on X.

Rose has now finished as the runner-up at the Masters three times. He has six top-10 finishes and eight top-12 finishes in 15 appearances at Augusta.
The win meant a great deal to McIlroy, who captured his first major championship since 2014 and completed the career Grand Slam. He summed up how important it was with the message he delivered to the media afterward.
While McIlroy winning may have been the best story possible for golf, it would have been a great story if Rose finally got it done as well. At age 44, Rose will not have all that many opportunities remaining to truly contend at Augusta National. He showed this year that he is still capable of playing as well as anyone in the field, however.
