Rory McIlroy’s Mother’s Day interview draws attention amid divorce news
An interview Rory McIlroy conducted on Mother’s Day Sunday is now drawing more attention amid the news about his impending divorce.
One media member drew some attention to the interview McIlroy conducted with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis after winning the Wells Fargo Championship. That person pointed out that McIlroy did not mention his wife Erica Stoll during the interview and spoke solely about his mother.
With news that Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica it now makes sense that he didn't even mention her on Mothers Day following his win at the Wells Fargo on Sunday. At the time I found it odd, but it makes sense now. #PGAChampionship pic.twitter.com/HiDNWoMmoI

Of course, that clip edited out the question McIlroy was asked. Balionis specifically asked McIlroy to comment about his mother, not to talk about Mother’s Day in general.

Sure, McIlroy could have said something about Stoll too since she is the mother of their daughter, but his answer was perfectly reasonable considering the question he was asked.
McIlroy had won the Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time in his career. A day after the event ended, he filed divorce paperwork in court in Florida.
McIlroy and Stoll got married in 2017.
