Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal were among the few people at Medinah who were actually happy on Sunday afternoon. Garcia was so elated about his team’s comeback win over the US at the Ryder Cup that he interrupted an Olazabal interview by planting a big kiss on the European team captain’s cheek.
Olazabal was initially reflecting about his team’s comeback during his interview with NBC, but he had nothing to do but give a big smile following the surprise kiss.
Garcia lost his foursome on Friday and Saturday, but he and Luke Donald beat Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods in Saturday’s four-ball. Garcia also beat Jim Furyk 1-up in Sunday’s match play after Furyk had an epic collapse, missing putts on 17 and 18 to blow a one-hole lead.
We’ll give Garcia a pass for his behavior; who wouldn’t be stoked after such an improbable comeback?
