Weather related delay causes Laura Davies to miss Hall of Fame induction ceremony
Monday was a special day for Laura Davies as she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, she was not present at the induction ceremony.
Davies participated in the U.S. Women’s Open, which concluded on Sunday and was held at the Lancaster Country Club, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That left Davies with not much time to make it to St. Andrews, Scotland for her enshrinement. Thanks to delays caused by weather, the 51-year-old was unable to make it in time.
Heat in the Philadelphia area caused mechanical issues to Davies’ plane, which delayed her flight for four hours past its 10 p.m. scheduled departure time. Upon finally arriving in London, Davies experienced another delay as the plane had to circle due to Heathrow Airport being busy. However, Davies was able to make it to the reception Monday evening.
Understandably, Davies less than pleased with the way the situation developed.
“I was quite upset,” Davies said via USA Today. “At the end, it was getting quite distressing.”
Davies wasn’t the only one upset. Karrie Webb took to her Twitter account to express her disappointment with the scheduling and efforts made by the Hall of Fame.
2day I'm deeply embarrassed 2 be a member @GolfHallofFame More effort should have been made 2 ensure @LFCLJD made it 2 her own induction!

Being inducted in2 @GolfHallofFame was a highlight of my career. This special occasion has been taken from @LFCLJD thru terrible scheduling!

It was an unfortunate string of circumstances indeed which led to Laura Davies missing a moment that would have been the culmination of a great career. That said, her place among golf’s elite isn’t questioned and her induction is well deserved. It’s a shame the weather didn’t cooperate.
