Gloria Govan is the woman at the center of the fight between her ex Matt Barnes and her new man, Derek Fisher. Since the fight between Barnes and Fisher became physical and this is a pretty big deal, we thought we would share some info about Govan to familiarize you with her.
Govan is 35 years old and has known Barnes since the two were in 8th grade. They first started dating in 2006 when Barnes was playing for the Golden State Warriors. The two became involved in a relationship and were on-and-off at times. They had twin boys in 2008, but the two split after some rocky times, including when Barnes was arrested for a domestic incident (Govan says he did not hit her).
Barnes and Gloria Govan were set to get married in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2010, but that fell through. They ended up getting married later in 2012. Barnes also had an incident with police that year.
The two ulitmately split in Oct. 2014 after things weren’t working out, and they have been separated since. Barnes has supposedly gone on dates with Rihanna since then, while Govan began dating Derek Fisher recently. Another rumor said Govan fooled around with Colin Kaepernick, leading to a beef between Barnes and the QB, but Govan said that was not true.
Govan is black and Mexican, and she is a reality TV personality, having appeared on VH1’s “Basketball Wives” thanks to her relationship with Barnes. However, she felt like she was not invited back to the show because of Barnes’ lack of cooperation a few years ago.
Another interesting subplot about Govan is that her sister is Laura Govan. If that name sounds familiar to you, it’s because it should; Laura Govan was engaged to former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and is actually the mother of his four children. Those two were set to have a fifth but she supposedly suffered a miscarriage. Much like Gloria, Laura has also been featured on “Basketball Wives LA,” but she was not brought back to the show several years ago.
One thing we know for sure is that whenever the Govans are involved, there’s never a lack of drama.
