YouTube NFL broadcast camera went haywire on huge Chiefs play

YouTube still needs to work out the kinks from its NFL broadcast.

The NFL’s second game of the 2025 season between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers was broadcast on YouTube — a first in league history. The Chiefs trailed the Chargers 27-18 with just over three minutes left at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil.

Kansas City uncorked a bottle of Patrick Mahomes magic to keep the team alive late. Facing 4th-and-7 at their own 42, Mahomes shook off immense pressure to find Hollywood Brown for a 49-yard gain. Fans were able to see the catch be made before the YouTube broadcast camera panned away from the play. When the play was back in focus, Brown had been tackled by the Chargers’ secondary.

The Chiefs could have cut the lead to less than a field goal had Brown gone all the way for the score. Unfortunately, fans were unable to see the play unfold properly.

The Chiefs ended up settling for a field goal as Mahomes threw three consecutive incompletions. The Chargers escaped São Paulo with a 27-21 win.

YouTube reportedly partnered with NBC to make the broadcast come to life. They may want to ask for their money back.

The camerawork was far from the only issue during Friday’s game. The audio mixing for the contest was completely out of sync. Announcer Rich Eisen also committed several errors while on the call.
