I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Underwear modeling is not all it’s cracked up to be. Alright, so never in my life have I said that, but still. If you ask former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, that is exactly what he would tell you. During a recent interview that Inside World Soccer passed along (via The Offiside), Ljungberg describes the aftermath of his decision to model underwear for Calvin Klein. He says the gig led to a belief among women that they could just grab his junk in public.
“Advertising was fun to do, but had unexpected consequences for my personal life. The price was simply too high,” Ljungberg told Di.se. “It sounds so cocky and I will not whine, but if, for example, I’d go to a night club, girls would come up and grab my crotch. Just like that. It was happening everywhere. They came from behind, side, pulled and tugged at me. The worst part was that you could not do a damn thing about it. When I angrily removed my hands, people just laughed.
“Some people thought that I could blame myself, I had done Calvin Klein and played in a top team. But there was no limit to what others thought they were entitled to do.”
Now that’s just wrong. If Ljungberg had modeled eyeglasses would people feel like they could just come up to him and stick their fingers in his eyeballs? It’s highly unlikely. You live and learn. If there’s any positive to be taken from this, it’s that Ljungberg’s experience can be a lesson for prospective underwear models everywhere. If women grabbing your package in public makes you uncomfortable, proceed with caution.
