The host country’s start at the 2014 World Cup was not a good one.
Brazil fell behind 1-0 to Croatia in their first match of Group A play at the World Cup following an own goal by Marcelo. The own goal accidentally went off Marcelo’s foot and past keeper Julio Cesar into the net when he was looking to clear it out of the box.
That was Brazil’s first own goal in World Cup history, which means if Neymar hadn’t tied the game later in the first half, Marcelo could have been roasted by people in the country. He still might be.
