The commercials shown during the Super Bowl are more of a talking point than the game itself for some. Just prior to halftime, one aired featuring Mike Tyson.
Tyson appeared in a commercial for Michael & Son Services, a handyman company based in Alexandria, Virginia. In the ad, Tyson comes in to knock out Vanilla-Gorilla, who was beating Amir Tyson in a boxing match.
As Michael & Son owner Basim Mansour noted, the ad was supposed to be a spoof of Tyson’s scene in “The Hangover” where he was playing the piano, but due to contractual obligations that could not be done. So, they opted to go a different route.
“We learned that Mike’s son, Amir, was a local student at American University studying broadcast journalism. So to keep in the Michael & Son theme, we came up with the idea of featuring the father and son duo instead. Amir would go in the ring to face his opponent and while losing the fight, Mike jumps in in a dramatic and humorous fashion and knocks out the competition,” Mansour said via the company’s website.
Very cool indeed.
