Don’t call it a comeback. Allen Iverson reportedly is negotiating with a Puerto Rican basketball league about playing for one of its teams in the upcoming season.
Yahoo! Sports says the league is discussing a potential bidding process where one of the teams can land the former NBA MVP. According to the report, the league pays its stars about $20,000 a month, plus living expenses. They have a 30-game season that begins in March. Former NBA players Rashad McCants and Ike Diogu are signed to play in the league.
Iverson tried playing abroad in Turkey in 2010, but that stint did not go too well. In 2008-2009, he played for the Pistons but was a bad teammate and refused to come off the bench. He then had failed stints with the Sixers and Grizzlies in the ’09-’10 season.
The 36-year-old reportedly is still interested in making a comeback to the NBA. He probably still could be playing in limited fashion if he accepted a bench role, but that’s something he wouldn’t agree to. His bad attitude is the reason he’s been out of the league the last few years.
