Brett Favre Rips Packers for Missing out on Randy Moss

Thanks to reporter Mike Clemens of WSSP in Milwaukee for pointing me towards this information. Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre criticized his organization for not acquiring disgruntled Raiders receiver Randy Moss during the offseason. With the Packers failing to pull the trigger, the Patriots pounced by acquiring Randy Moss on draft day, making them a heavy Super Bowl favorite. Here’s what Favre had to say in response:

“I know what we could have signed him for,”
…
“We could have gotten him for less money than New England did. He wanted to play in Green Bay for the amount of money we could have paid him. It (was) well worth the risk.”
…
“The last thing I want to do is start anything,” Favre said Saturday. “But I think he would have been a great addition. You throw Randy Moss, you throw Donald Driver and you throw Greg Jennings on the field at the same time, and go three-wide receiver set, I think it’s pretty intimidating. And we lost out on that, and it’s a shame because I know we could have had him.”

Favre’s right — the Packers would’ve had an intimidating offense with Moss out there in a three-receiver set. And yes, for a fourth round pick, it was well worth the risk. So I agree with Favre on that point.

However, Moss wouldn’t have solved Green Bay’s problems. I would’ve given Moss a year in Green Bay before he got pissed off about not having a winning team, not getting the ball enough, and not having a good QB. So no, I don’t think Green Bay would have been a good fit for Randy. New England on the other hand, is the perfect fit for Moss. So while a fourth round pick is a fine price for Moss, the acquisition of Randy would not have solved anything for Green Bay.

Additionally, Favre has no business coming out and criticizing his team for not acquiring Moss. The front office has done Favre a favor by allowing him as much time as they did last year to decide if he would return to the organization. The Packers should be turning the keys to the organization over to Aaron Rodgers. Instead, they’re sticking with Favre until Brett says he’s done. The front office is being generous and catering to Brett. And how does Favre repay them? By ripping them. Poor form Brett, poor form.
