Many people were wondering about Jeremy Lin’s reaction to the offensive ESPN mobile headline that appeared after the Knicks’ loss Friday night. Lin, who heard similar racial taunts in college, is forgiving.
“I don’t think it was on purpose or whatever, but (at) the same time they have apologized. And so from my end I don’t care anymore,” Lin said Sunday. “Have to learn to forgive, and I don’t even think that was intentional. Or hopefully not.”
People should note that he said he doesn’t care anymore, which means it may have bothered him before the apology. He’s also being optimistic like many of us who really hope the headline was unintentional. With Max Bretos and Spero Dedes, the context of their use of the phrase suggests it was unintentional. It’s much more difficult to determine the context for the print headline.
