Lamar Odom benched in Mavs loss, gets weirdly personal after game

If you thought the one point, one rebound, one assist game (aka the triple single) Lamar Odom had against the Lakers Wednesday was the low point of his basketball season in Dallas, you were wrong. Odom did not play a single minute in the team’s loss to the Spurs Friday. Not one. He was benched and received a “DNP – Coach’s Decision” in the official boxscore. Odom believes it was the first time he didn’t play when healthy, and he got weirdly personal after the game.

“I buried a child, I buried a baby,’’ Odom said, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. He was apparently trying to show that being benched wasn’t a low point in his career.

“My name is Lamar, not Basketball Player,’’ Odom said. “It’s Lamar Odom. Lamar Joseph Odom.”

“[Losing your confidence] happens, and that happens with missed shots and games you don’t play well. But I’m so much more into sports. I’m someone’s child.”

You don’t need us to remind you that Lamar is a sensitive guy and not your typical NBA player, but this seemed so out of place. We know Odom is down on himself and not handling Dallas well, but he’s also a pro and needs to make the best of the situation. I can’t remember another trade working out more disastrously than this has.
