1 NFL team wants to avoid Brendan Sorsby drama
At least one NFL team is set to avoid Brendan Sorsby, largely because of the off-field drama that might come with him.
The New York Jets are expected to do their due diligence on Sorsby prior to the NFL supplemental draft, but at least one source told ESPN’s Rich Cimini that the team probably will not pursue him. The Jets are concerned about the gambling issues the quarterback has dealt with, and the team has shied away from players with character concerns in recent years.
One source told Cimini outright that the Jets probably will not pursue Sorsby because “they don’t want to deal with it.”
The Jets do not have a long-term quarterback solution on their roster, making them a viable potential landing spot for Sorsby. The fact that they are reluctant to go that route illustrates just how deep concerns about Sorsby go after he sought treatment for a gambling addiction that essentially ended his NCAA career. The Jets are not necessarily the only team that feels that way, either.
Sorsby is viewed as a second-round talent when taking his off-field issues into account. That could be a steal for any team that genuinely believes he could be a franchise quarterback, but it would be a very risky move. It is a risk the Jets, at minimum, appear wary of taking.
Ronda Rousey mocks UFC White House viewership numbers
Ronda Rousey and Jake Paul took aim at the UFC following the release of viewership figures for its historic Freedom 250 event at the White House.
The card, held on the South Lawn as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, averaged 7 million viewers in the U.S. on Paramount+, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics data. Including Latin America, it reached 8.2 million on average with 17 million unique viewers.
This fell short of the numbers posted by Most Valuable Promotions’ debut MMA event in May, where Rousey submitted Gina Carano via armbar in just 17 seconds. That Netflix broadcast averaged 9.3 million U.S. viewers and peaked near 17 million globally.
Rousey responded pointedly to UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell: “Lmao! Kiss my (expletive) Hunter Campbell.”
Despite the viewership edge for MVP, the UFC Freedom 250 delivered a stronger overall card, highlighted by competitive bouts and Justin Gaethje’s upset lightweight title victory over Ilia Topuria. The Rousey-Carono main event, while drawing massive interest, ended quickly in a one-sided finish.
Both events underscored MMA’s growing mainstream appeal.
Hurricanes re-sign Nicolas Deslauriers mid-championship parade celebration
The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed forward Nicolas Deslauriers to a two-year contract during their Stanley Cup championship parade in Raleigh on Saturday.
General manager Eric Tulsky announced the deal onstage midway through the event.
The 35-year-old winger, acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers via trade in March, had been set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He agreed to remain with the team through the 2027-28 season on a $1.75 million contract with an $875,000 average annual value.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the third round in 2009, Deslauriers has appeared in 708 regular-season games with six NHL clubs, tallying 53 goals and 53 assists. He played 31 games last season and saw limited playoff action in one contest during Carolina’s championship run.
Tulsky noted that Deslauriers fit into the locker room and culture from day one, bringing a veteran presence and physical element to the roster.
“Nic has fit in with our locker room and culture from day one when he got to Raleigh,” Tulsky said in a press release, via NHL.com. “He provides a veteran presence and adds a physical element to our roster.”
After signing, Deslauriers high-fived a teammate and shouted to fans, “Two more (expletive) years!”
Unflattering report emerges about Myles Garrett
Myles Garrett reportedly wasn’t the universally beloved figure that he seemed to be within the Cleveland Browns organization.
Garrett was a true fan favorite as he terrorized opposing offenses for the Browns in nine seasons. But according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, Garrett wasn’t a true “unifier” for the team relative to his on-field impact.
Garrett was reportedly “respected and revered” but “wasn’t necessarily universally beloved” by everyone on the roster. Garrett was said to have stuck to a “tight inner circle” when outside the team facility.
Cabot added that third-year linebacker Jared Verse, who was the centerpiece in the Los Angeles trade package for Garrett, is expected to be “more of a force multiplier” than his predecessor.
Garrett may not reportedly have Verse’s magnetic personality, but the veteran’s play on the field was never in question. Garrett accumulated five first-team All-Pro nods and two Defensive Player of the Year awards. Most fans would take that type of production over a locker room unifier any day.
Ironically, Verse may have already caused some friction with one of his new teammates. The Florida State alum was spotted wearing Dillon Gabriel’s No. 8 jersey and is set to take the quarterback’s number next season.
Jared McCain had the best reaction after fan mistook him for Dylan Harper
A fan mistook Jared McCain for Dylan Harper, and the interaction went about as well as anyone would have expected.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard was recently spotted walking down a sidewalk with his best friend Nate, when a fan stopped him to ask an important question: was he Dylan Harper? The fan yelled at McCain from her vehicle.
Fan: “Wait, wait! Are you Dylan Harper? Are you Dylan Harper?
McCain: “Oh my god, yes! I’m Dylan!”
“I’m Dylan”
— Overtime (@overtime) June 20, 2026
This fan thought she met Dylan Harper but it was Jared McCain 💀 (via shvntelleee/TT) pic.twitter.com/63ML3kUhNW
In all fairness to the fan, McCain and Harper share similar builds and hairstyles. Both have light skin and have some Filipino blood as well. It’s far from the most egregious case of mistaken identity out there.
But given the rivalry between the Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs, the fan may have her Spurs fandom card revoked for not knowing the difference between the two. Victor Wembanyama was even suspected of having put a hit out on McCain at the end of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals.
McCain, to no one’s surprise, played into the moment rather than embarrass the fan. McCain wouldn’t even ding Daryl Morey for trading him to the Thunder. He was never going to take offense to a fan mistaking him for another player — even a Spurs rival.
1 player is expected to be the odd man out on the Lakers in free agency
The Los Angeles Lakers might only be able to return four of their five starters from last season.
Lakers forward Rui Hachimura could potentially be the odd man out for the team in free agency this offseason, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported this week. McMenamin adds that Hachimura may need to explore the market in order to find a desired deal.
Additionally, McMenamin notes that the Lakers have interest in re-signing both guard Marcus Smart and sharpshooter Luke Kennard (which could come at the cost of Hachimura). You can read McMenamin’s full report on the situation here.
Hachimura, 28, just completed his third season with the Lakers and averaged 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during the regular season. But he came on strong during the playoffs and averaged 17.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while starting in every single game for L.A.
The ex-lottery pick Hachimura is a strong, efficient jump shooter who also brings plenty of defensive versatility at 6-foot-8. But now an unrestricted free agent this summer, Hachimura may have played himself out of the range where the Lakers would financially be able to retain him.
On top of that, the Lakers have some other big priorities this offseason, including trying to bring back both Austin Reaves and LeBron James and attempting to meet Luka Doncic’s ultimatum for them to add an impact center (such as this recently-rumored target). That means Hachimura is low on the team’s agenda and might have to look elsewhere in order to get paid commensurate to his true market value.
Pirates manager charges umpires after controversial finish vs. Rockies
The Pittsburgh Pirates had a game-tying RBI taken away in crushing fashion Saturday night against the Colorado Rockies.
The Pirates trailed the Rockies 2-1 in the top of the 9th inning at Coors Field in Denver, Colo. Jake Mangum came up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs against Rockies reliever Jaden Hill.
After fouling off a couple of 1-2 pitches, Mangum put the ball in play toward Colorado third baseman Kyle Karros. What appeared to be a routine play turned sideways as Karros never even got a throw off.
Karros immediately asked for a review. Umpires ruled that Billy Cook, who came in to pinch run for Bryan Reynolds earlier in the inning, had nicked Karros’ glove as her ran toward third. The Rockies won on a late interference on the basepaths call.

Pirates manager Don Kelly immediately sprang out of the dugout and confronted the umpires over the game-ending ruling. With the game already over, the Pirates skipper gave the umpires an earful — his only recourse with the game already decided.
Here’s a closer look at Cook’s cleat making contact with Karros’ glove.

Pittsburgh wasted another gem from Paul Skenes, who gave up a pair of runs on 4 hits across 6 solid innings. The first run came via a wild leadoff inside-the-park home run that saw Mangum make a failed dive at a fly ball in deep right-center field.
The Pirates have lost in Skenes’ last seven starts.
17-year-old Angels prospect steals 8 bases in a single game
The Los Angeles Angels are once again the Bad News Bears of Major League Baseball, but salvation might only be a few short years away.
Juan Cespedes, a 17-year-old prospect in the Angels organization, made headlines on Saturday with a generational feat on the basepaths. While playing in the Dominican Summer League (DSL), Cespedes stole a whopping eight bases in a single game.
Per the official Angels Player Development page on X, that is the highest-single game total in all of recorded Major or Minor League Baseball history. Here is the footage of all eight of Cespedes’ steals from the game.
Angels prospect Juan Cespedes steals 8 bases in a single game for the DSL Angels pic.twitter.com/eG1oa8tPID
— AngelsMiLB (@AngelsMiLB) June 20, 2026
Cespedes is a 5-foot-10 shortstop who bats lefty. He signed a minor-league contract with the Angels in January of this year and is now playing at the rookie-league level in the DSL.
Overall on the year, Cespedes now has 25 stolen bases and just two times caught stealing through 13 total games in the DSL. He is also batting .395 with an impressive .974 OPS over that span.
While the inherently incomplete nature of game-by-game Minor League scorekeeping makes it virtually impossible to know definitively whether Cespedes actually set an all-time record, his single-game accomplishment this week is no less impressive. The MLB Angels may be continuing to create new lows for themselves this season, but some reinforcements might be on the way in the form of the teenage phenom Cespedes (at least come 2030 or so).
WNBA player falls victim to brutal double ankle-breaker
Atlanta Dream guard Te-Hina Paopao may need some extra attention from the training staff on Saturday night after both her ankles got snatched.
Paopao was on an island against Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell midway through the second quarter at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Ga. Mitchell led Paopao toward the left wing before shedding her with a nasty crossover.
Mitchell’s shiftiness completely fooled Paopao, who ended up twisting both of her ankles at once. The lefty paused à la prime James Harden and set her feet for a wide-open three-point shot.

Mitchell finished with 16 points on 5/13 shooting.
Paopao’s Dream came away with the victory, with the South Carolina guard contributing 9 points and 2 assists in the 113-96 home win.
While the regular-season result will come and go, Paopao breaking both her ankles at the same time will probably live on in dozens of YouTube highlight reels to come.
Notable update emerges about Luguentz Dort’s future
There appears to be some good news and bad news for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Luguentz Dort.
The Thunder are expected to pick up their $17.2 million team option for next season on the veteran Dort, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported on Saturday. Scotto notes however that Oklahoma City is then expected to consider flipping Dort on the trade market.
Dort, 27, is tied with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the longest-tenured player on the Thunder (since 2019). A former First Team All-Defensive selection, Dort’s hard-nosed 3-and-D skillset was crucial in helping OKC win the 2025 NBA championship (though Dort has also come under fire for his allegedly dirty style of play).
The Thunder, who lost in this year’s Western Conference Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, already have three massive contracts on their books with Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. That means they need to be somewhat tight-fisted with the rest of their roster, and that is where role players like Dort come in.
Earlier this month, we learned that OKC was very likely to keep one other key member of their frontcourt heading into the 2026-27 season. As such, Dort’s $17.2 million team option for next season is the most logical place for them to do so trimming from there.
The reigning back-to-back MVP Gilgeous-Alexander does really seem to want Dort back on the Thunder roster next season. But picking up Dort’s team option to ensure he gets paid and then flipping him for a potentially younger and more cost-controlled asset might represent the best outcome for all parties involved here.
Timberwolves appear to drop a big trade hint before the 2026 NBA Draft
The Minnesota Timberwolves have made deep playoff runs over the last three seasons but have been unable to get over the hump.
After back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances, they took a step back and were eliminated in the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
The upcoming 2026 NBA Draft gives Minnesota an opportunity to add a potential game-changing talent to run alongside star Anthony Edwards in the backcourt. However, with the No. 28 pick in the first round, the Timberwolves may need to trade up to land a guard they appear to be targeting.
Minnesota hosted Alabama Crimson Tide guard Labaron Philon Jr. for a workout on Saturday, a possible sign the Timberwolves are looking to make a move to improve their draft position to select him, according to Chris Hine of The Minnesota Star Tribune.
“Philon’s workout is an indication the Wolves are canvassing their options in terms of moving up from No. 28 in the first round,” Hine wrote.
“The last time the Wolves moved up in the draft for a guard, they did so in a major way two years ago. They didn’t have a first-round pick and instead traded a 2031 unprotected first-rounder and a 2030 pick swap to the Spurs to get Rob Dillingham at No. 8.”
In two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Philon averaged 16.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds, while shooting 36.7 percent from deep.
The Timberwolves need to address their backcourt situation in the offseason, especially with Ayo Dosunmu entering free agency.
Bryce Harper torches the Mets with a historic performance
The Philadelphia Phillies laid a beatdown on the New York Mets on Saturday, with Bryce Harper pulling off a historic feat at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa.
With the Phillies looking to even their three-game series against their National League East Division rivals, Harper turned the heat up and recorded the first Philadelphia cycle since 2024.
Harper started the night with a solo home run in the first inning. In a wild third inning, where the Phillies scored eight runs, the two-time Most Valuable Player recorded a double and a single.
Needing just a triple to complete his first-ever MLB cycle, the future Baseball Hall of Famer delivered with a two-run triple in the fifth inning, as the Phillies demolished the Mets in a 15-3 win.
Here is the video of Harper’s three-bagger.

— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) June 21, 2026
That was a strong rebound from the 33-year-old Harper after going hitless on three at-bats in the Phillies’ 6-4 loss in the series opener on Friday. Harper’s home run was his 16th of the season and first since a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 10.
Apart from Harper, Kyle Schwarber dealt heavy damage on New York’s pitching, going 4-for-5, including a pair of home runs in the third inning.
The Phillies improved to 41-35 and will look to win the series on Sunday, with right-hander Zack Wheeler getting the ball.
Paul Skenes gives up leadoff inside-the-park home run
Paul Skenes could only watch in horror Saturday as the first batter he faced raced all the way to home plate.
The Pittsburgh Pirates ace was behind 2-1 to Colorado Rockies leadoff hitter Jake McCarthy in the bottom of the 1st inning at Coors Field in Denver, Colo. Skenes tried to sneak a fastball to even the count and got burned in a big way.
McCarthy smashed the mashed middle-middle meatball to deep right-center field. Pirates center fielder Jake Mangum tried to make a diving play at the ball and fell short. The ball rolled all the way to the wall and died right underneath the outfield fence.

— MLB (@MLB) June 21, 2026
The speedy McCarthy completed the inside-the-park home run with plenty of time to spare. No errors were recorded on the play, meaning the Rockies outfielder officially earned his 5th home run of the season the hard way.
McCarthy entered the game 3-for-6 with a double and a triple against Skenes and continued that success on Saturday night. Following the inside-the-parker, McCarthy legged out a double on a slow-rolling ground ball to center field in his second at-bat.
The home run Skenes gave up to McCarthy was already the 9th he has allowed through 16 starts in 2026. He only allowed 11 home runs across 32 starts last season.
Fan chooses interesting item for Wyndham Clark to sign at US Open
One fan got creative in choosing her Wyndham Clark-signed memento from this year’s U.S. Open.
Clark was the runaway leader on Saturday through 54 holes at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. That made him the most sought-after golfer at the course, with fans lining up to have him affix his autograph on various items.
After being given a U.S. Open hat to sign, one woman handed Clark a can of Diet Coke. Like a true professional, Clark signed the beverage without even flinching.
This fan gave Wyndham a DIET COKE can to sign 🤣 pic.twitter.com/rDLqWnSOpC
— Golf Channel (@GolfChannel) June 21, 2026
Clark, who won the U.S. Open in 2023, infamously threw a tantrum during last year’s tournament after missing the cut to make it to weekend action. He trashed a couple of lockers at the Oakmont Country Club in frustration.
The 32-year-old American was in a much better mood this time around.
Clark had a historic run through the first two days of the U.S. Open. He breezed through his opening round on Thursday with a 64 to get to 6 under. He then followed with a 69 on Friday to break the course record through 36 holes, previously held by Shigeki Maruyama and Phil Mickelson.
Clark hit an even 70 on Saturday to carry a commanding 6-stroke lead heading into the final round of the 2026 U.S. Open.
The fan’s signed Diet Coke can may turn into quite the piece of memorabilia should Clark hold on to win it all.
Dark horse team could emerge as a surprise Jaylen Brown suitor
A big trade has yet to go down in the NBA offseason, but eyes continue to be on Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
The forward is consistently rumored as a potential Boston asset in case of a trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The needle hasn’t seriously moved on that front, but in case Boston does indeed put the former NBA Finals MVP on the trade block, a Western Conference team could emerge as a serious suitor, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.
“Speaking of Plan Bs, league sources say the Portland Trail Blazers would have serious interest in Brown if the Celtics made him available. The Blazers have been among the suitors for Antetokounmpo since the February trade deadline but appear to be on the outside looking in at the moment,” wrote Amick.
The Blazers appear to be trying to hit a home run one way or another in the offseason in its search for a huge piece that could truly take the team to the next level.
After years of missing the NBA Playoffs, Portland finally ended its drought by going 42-40 in the 2025-26 season to make the postseason.
They were eliminated by Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the first round, but that run showed the Blazers are a team on the rise, and they could double down on their momentum by landing a superstar, whether it’s Antetokounmpo or Brown.
BIG3 game called off after Lance Stephenson throws punches
It didn’t take long for sparks to fly in the 2026 BIG3 season.
On Saturday, the game between reigning champions Miami 305 and the LA Riot at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, Calif., was called off after ejections left too few players to continue.
It all started with a skirmish involving Miami 305’s Michael Beasley and LA Riot’s Dwight Howard as they battled for position in the shaded area.

From there, the game devolved, as Beasley was ejected. Miami’s Lance Stephenson took things from there, committing a hard foul before throwing punches at Riot guard Jordan Crawford.

— Ballislife.com (@Ballislife) June 20, 2026
With those ejections, the game had to be canceled, and Miami lost via forfeit, 39-30, the league announced.
“Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley both ejected. Miami 305 down to two active players game over by forfeit,” the BIG3 shared via a post on X.
Any team with both Beasley and Stephenson on its roster will always have to expect the unexpected from the duo. While both are talented, they can also bring unnecessary distraction. That being said, they proved that they can win despite the drama, having won the BIG3 championship in 2025. For one, Beasley is the reigning back-to-back MVP of the league.
Stephenson, Beasley and the 305 will look to bounce back in Week 2 with a matchup against the Detroit Amps at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich., on June 27.
Blue Jays trade for infielder with 60 career MLB home runs
The Toronto Blue Jays are shoring up their infield depth with an under-the-radar move.
On Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reported that the reigning American League champions have acquired veteran infielder Luis Urias via a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. In return, the Diamondbacks got cash.
The 29-year-old Urias has yet to see action in the big leagues since getting signed by the Diamondbacks to a minor-league deal in March. He was showing out with Arizona’s Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces before the trade, as he hit .361/.393/.546 with three home runs and 19 RBIs to his name through 27 games and across 117 plate appearances.
However, he’ll continue to stay in the minors, with the Blue Jays immediately assigning him to their Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons.
Still, Urias can be expected to get called up by the Blue Jays after he exercised an upward mobility clause, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
The last time Urias played in the majors was in 2025, when he appeared in 96 games and hit just .230/.315/.338 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs through 330 plate appearances.
Urias’ best years so far in his MLB career were during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers. He played three-plus seasons with the Brewers, including a two-year stretch from 2021-2022, when he posted a .766 OPS to go along with a 111 OPS+.
In his major league career, Urias is batting .231/.329/.378 with 60 home runs and 221 RBIs in 582 games.
Tigers’ asking price for Tarik Skubal has been revealed
If the Detroit Tigers trade ace pitcher Tarik Skubal, the cost to acquire him will not be cheap.
The Tigers are prioritizing “controllable pitching and athletic position players close to big league-ready” if they do trade Skubal, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. It remains to be seen if the Tigers actually decide to make Skubal available as they try to get back into the fringes of contention before the August 3 trade deadline.
The Tigers’ ask makes sense, since this is not a team that wants to enter into a full-scale rebuild. They made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, but with Skubal set to become a free agent at the end of the season, they will have some tough decisions to make on their short-term future if they do not get hot soon. If they can get some talent that could help them as soon as next season, they would have to consider it.
A Skubal trade looked highly likely in early June while the Tigers were floundering in last place. They have since gone 10-6 in June, however, and sit six games out of the final AL Wild Card spot after their win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
Skubal has a 3.02 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 53.2 innings this season, and is back healthy after an elbow procedure. He could easily put a team over the top in a World Series chase, even if there is a real risk of him being nothing more than a rental player.
Notable NBA free agent is staying with his current team
Cross one name off the list of top NBA free agents this summer.
Collin Gillespie is re-signing with the Phoenix Suns on a 4-year, $48 million deal, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. He would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer if the two sides had not reached a deal.
Free agent guard Collin Gillespie intends to sign a four-year, $48 million deal to return to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. Gillespie spent three straight seasons on two-way contracts after going undrafted out of Villanova in 2022 and now earns a lucrative long-term deal. pic.twitter.com/HIBFG0dDMU
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) June 20, 2026
Gillespie emerged as a core member of the Suns this past season. He averaged 12.7 points and 1.2 steals per game for Phoenix, and brought energy and defensive acumen. He also led the team with 232 made threes in 80 games, and generally served as a quality agitator when he was on the floor.
Gillespie entered the league in 2022 after going undrafted out of Villanova. His growth into a key player is a big success story for both him and the Suns.
The Suns still have some business to handle this offseason. Chief among those things is figuring out the future of center Mark Williams, who is due to become a restricted free agent.
Kyrie Irving reacts after allegedly ghosting Cavaliers’ championship reunion
Kyrie Irving offered a response to claims that he ghosted his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates at a recent championship reunion — sort of.
Irving posted a photo on Instagram Friday commemorating the Cavaliers’ 2016 championship team. He did not otherwise acknowledge claims that he skipped a team reunion, writing that the only thing that mattered to him was that they had achieved success.
All for one. One for All,” Irving wrote. “WE completed the mission together as brothers, and that’s all that matters to me.”
According to JR Smith, Irving was invited to the recent team reunion, but he ghosted everyone. Irving’s post is not so much a denial as it is an effort not to fuel any more drama, no matter what the truth is.
Irving was one of the star players on that Cavaliers team and hit the three-pointer that ultimately won the championship in Game 7 against Golden State. One year later, however, he asked for a trade and fell out with the Cavaliers. While his issues at the time were with the franchise, there seems to be no love lost between him and his former teammates, either.
