Roger Mayweather Thinks Floyd and Manny Pacquiao Will Fight May 5th

While the fake Roger Mayweather was making noise through his phony Twitter account Tuesday, the real Roger Mayweather made some news by saying he thinks the potential Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight will happen.

“I think it’s going to happen,” Roger (Floyd’s uncle and trainer) told Boxing Scene. “Any time you have $100 million involved, a fight is going to happen. There are no other opponents. Pacquiao is running out of opponents. I think everyone wants the fight. Pacquiao says he’s going to take a test, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen.”

We hadn’t heard much on the progress of the potential fight, so this is a positive sign. The last word was when we suspected Bob Arum was trying to arrange the fight without Golden Boy Promotions being involved.

Floyd has the MGM Grand booked for May 5th, so it makes sense for him to face Manny Pacquiao on that date. Many people think Pacquiao’s poor showing against Juan Manuel Marquez is a strong sign that Floyd will win a fight between the two. While Pacquiao’s struggles against Marquez have no impact on a fight with Floyd, I have felt all along that Mayweather should be favored.

Roger Mayweather also said that one reason Amir Khan lost to Lamont Peterson Saturday is because he wasn’t on the same stuff he usually is. Mayweather says Khan is usually on the same stuff Pacquiao takes.

Here is a full history of the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. negotiations.
