Ron Jaworski rips Nick Saban: ‘I don’t like liars’

There is a good chance the Philadelphia Eagles will fire Andy Reid at the end of the season, and one name that has been mentioned as a possible replacement for him is Alabama coach Nick Saban. Legendary Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski is not willing to give Saban his endorsement.

As you know, Saban left LSU for short stint with the Miami Dolphins from 2005-2006. He then left Miami to coach at Alabama, where he has been since 2007 and won two national championships (with a third possibly coming this season). Like many others, Jaws felt the way Saban left the Dolphins was classless.

“I’m not a Saban guy, because I don’t like liars, and I think he lied,” Jaworski told 97.5 The Fantatic earlier this week, via The Big Lead. “I think he lied to the Miami Dolphins, and to the fans of Miami, and he left. And it’s pretty simple, I think integrity is very important, if you don’t have integrity, I don’t know how you can be successful.

“Yeah, I know he’s great at Alabama, and he’ll probably win another national championship, but I just don’t like people that don’t have integrity, so it’s pretty easy for me to say I don’t want Nick Saban in town.”

Depending on who you believe, you could make the argument that Saban technically didn’t lie to the Dolphins. Many feel that Saban was interested in Alabama all along, but there is another line of thinking that Saban turned down Alabama’s initial offer and intended to stay in Miami. Then, after Rich Rodriguez turned down the job, Bama came back and offered to make Saban the highest-paid coach in college football. Saban accepted the bigger offer.

Whatever the case, it’s clear that Jaws has a strong opinion of the Bama coach. Even if Saban wants us to think he never lied, it doesn’t sound like Jaworski has any intention of believing him.

Saban didn’t do anything every other coach does when they are about to change jobs.  He has more class in his little finger than RJ has in his entire sizable body.  RJ is as unprofessional as the fool who dissed RGIII for not acting black enough.  It’s no wonder there’s so much bullying going on in schools when they have such examples set for them by adults in the public eye.

If memory serves me correctly, Saban rejected the first Alabama offer and came out with his statement that he was not seeking the Alabama job.  Bama then offered the job to Rich Rodriguez, who was then the coach at West Virginia, proving Saban was not lying.  When Rich Rod rejected the Tide’s offer, they emptied the school coffers and went after Saban again, this time with an offer he could not refuse.

If Jaws thinks Saban is a liar, what is his opinion of Bobby Petrino?

What makes anybody think that Alabama can beat the Irish?I for one think the Irish will win,34-28.

RJ is a bum to me. He act like as if he will be footing the bill to pay Saban if he came to Philly. RJ is still sore that he did not win the only super bowl he was able to go to.. I have seen this guy down grade Black atheletes becasue he was not as talented as they where. Tell RJ to get that DILdo out his ass. And go find another job doing something else.Like I said RJ is a bum!!!

  • QuickRelease

Does anybody really care what “Jaws” has to say about anything?  I’m sure RGIII thinks along those same lines.  I would be shocked if Saban went to Philadelphia.  He has more money than he needs already and the best college FB job in the Country.

Classic Philly, shoot self in foot again and again.
Classic Saban, leave a good thing in middle of night trying to find that bigger and better deal.

Saban is a classless liar – see Bobby Petrino -same thing!

I like Jaws as a commentator and all, but how exactly is he a “legendary” quarterback? He has one good year, made one Pro bowl and finished with pretty average numbers. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate how hard it is just to be a QB in the NFL, but I think we need to hold Legendary status for just the greats.

The gaytriots have the biggest douche-bag in sports as their coach and you call out Saban? If you happen to think Belicheat is anything other than a weasel because he wins football games, you’re probably someone who shouldn’t be trusted either.

  • BamaRules

ND shouldn’t even be in the game. Stanford scored and got jobed and if Pitt had a kicker you wouldn’t even be on here. Bama, the best program in college footbal. If he were your coach you would love him because all he does is win, something ND couldn’t do for 20 years.

The way Saban left for Alabama smelled worse than that whale that washed up in Southern California!

If Nick Satan would have came back AFTER the second offer and said “you know what guys? I thought about it, and have decided to change my mind”, I could swallow that better than the repeated lies of NOT leaving.
Bottom line is that he in fact did deceive the Miami faithful…

And this one time…  in band camp…

    ………… crickets….chirp..chirp..chirp…crickets…..

and all of this nonsense talk about is he or isn’t he…who cares?really???  I am more concerned about how all of this has raised or lowered the price of tea in China because next week I go on vacation, and I got my plane tickets, first class all the way.  I am going to Atlanta, Georgia leaving out of Knoxville, Tennessee at 8:30 am.  I hope there is an in-flight movie.  I hear that new Paul Rudd movie is supposed to be very funny.

Think Saban is a classy guy? Here is a short history. He was coach at Toledo in the early 1990s, stayed for exactly one year before leaving to be an assistant for the Browns. I couldn’t blame him for taking the job, but when he left he said how hard the decision was and it was a dream opportunity to be able to coach in the NFL. He stayed there for one year before taking the Michigan State job. He said it was a very tough decision, but it was a dream opportunity to have a head coaching job in the Big Ten. He stayed three years before the next “dream opportunity” came, this time at LSU. He stayed in Baton Rouge for an eternity in Saban years, five years, before jumping to the Dolphins for a two-year stint. Then on to Bama, which of course he said is the ultimate job in coaching, which he now apparently wants to leave. The man is a narcissistic egomaniac. Great coach, but no soul.

    Well said Robert, well said!

Football is a business. There is no such thing as loyalty. It is all about business, so don’t get emotional over someone elses decision to go for the money. Tim Tebow knew he did not have a chance in hell to be a sustainable starting QB in the league but he wanted to be a part of it and he has gotten rich in a few years.  He has invested his money well and will now have a change of heart and go be a virgin sex symbol. It is business guys…….strictly business. Ask Gronkowski of the Patriots who got the franchise tag. Also, ask Greg Jennings of Greenbay when he gets the franchise tag this year.  Nick Saban is a good coach/businessman. Anybody who is on top of their game in business never show all their cards up front and for that they will not be liked by everybody. Especially the people on the losing end of the business deal.

The article isn’t about whether Alabama can beat Notre Dame and nobody gives a rats a$$ about what you think will happen.

  • finsfanatic

It wasn’t that he left after saying he was not leaving. That can happen! It was how he left… ducking out on the press via  the back door, not showing up for the press conference and the owner had to handle it. Worse though was not meeting with the team or his coaches. Contacting your assistants by phone, is not class in my book! I was then and still am a Miami fan and the way he handled his exit, showed no class at all.

  • finsfanatic

I would have been happen if he would have just showed up at the press conference announcing his leaving. I can understand accepting the offer but, as I said above, it was HOW he left town! This community backed him and supported him and he did not even have class enough to say goodbye.

  • allworld212

soon… you’ll be making an excuse for ‘bama’ as well.

  • Howard Lee

True–Who in their right mind mind would want to even visit the cesspool of Philly, much less coach there. I doubt if Saban loses a lot of sleep over what RJ thinks or says.  If Saban leaves Alabama it will probably be to retire.

  • dflet2635

Greg Jennings isn’t getting the franchise tag next year. He will not be resigned by Greenbay. They don’t need him.

  • NickChick

Hey Joe,  get your facts straight buddy.  I was at MSU for some of the time Nick was there.  He coached under Perles and as head coach for a total of 12 years.  Not 3….quite a difference.  He is a class act all the way.  Sometimes the way he departs has more to do with the people for whom he works — as a coach, he still has a boss and sometimes they dictate his terms, not him.  Before you going throwing someone under the bus, try to step into his shoes.  Always an MSU fan and always a Nick Saban fan!

  • unkyjack

Ron,…you’re not exactly our #1 favorite QB, either.  That’s why your not even in our thoughts when we think of football.
