Report: Geno Smith no-showed IK Enemkpali’s charity event

Geno Smith Jets

Former New York Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali reportedly punched Geno Smith in the face over Smith skipping a charity event.

According to TMZ, Enemkpali organized a youth football camp in Texas last month and invited Smith to attend. Smith had apparently agreed to be a part of the event, because his face was reportedly used for the flier. Geno was unable to attend.

We’re told IK stepped to Geno to talk about it on Tuesday, but Geno told him to back off because he wasn’t going to discuss it at that moment. Geno turned away, but IK stood his ground … and socked Geno in the jaw.

One player told us, “He straight sucker punched him.” As we reported, Jets brass immediately cut IK from the team … and Geno’s out for 6-10 weeks.

Brian Costello of the New York Post confirmed the report, noting that Smith had to back out of the event at the last second when someone close to him passed away. Enemkpali supposedly wanted Smith to reimburse him for the $600 he spent on a flight and limo transportation, and he felt that Smith didn’t pay quickly enough.

That would all help explain the tweet from Boomer Esiason that indicated Smith owed money to Enemkpali, especially since the event was last month and the two just now fought over it. Expect the new Twitter memes to be even worse than the ones we already saw on Tuesday afternoon.
