Jamaal Charles unlikely to play Week 1

Jamaal-Charles

The Kansas City Chiefs may have to begin the 2016 season without their most explosive offensive player, as head coach Andy Reid said Monday that Jamaal Charles is unlikely to be ready for Week 1.

“I think it’s a stretch for him to play on Sunday,” Reid told reporters.

Charles tore his ACL last October, so he has not yet had a full year to recover from the injury. At age 29, he may take a little longer to come back than he did when he suffered the same injury back in 2011.

Even when Charles returns, the Chiefs are likely going to use a running back by committee approach and keep Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West involved. We all know how capable Charles is of ripping off big plays, but Reid has openly admitted that the team is going to be careful with the veteran. At this point, Charles is no lock to play in the first month of the season.
