Jay Gruden’s eyes pop out of his head following third RG3 question in interview
Jay Gruden has been the head coach of the Washington Redskins for less than a day, and the guy is already sick of questions about Robert Griffin III.
Hours after Gruden, the former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator, was introduced Thursday as the new head coach of the Skins, he did an interview with ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” Host Lindsay Czarniak peppered him with three straight RG3 questions, even though Gruden made it clear after the first question that he hadn’t spoken with Griffin yet. That didn’t stop Czarniak from following up twice with RG3 questions, leading Gruden’s eyes to pop out of his head after the third question.
“Jay, how much communication have you had with RG3?” was the first question.
“None yet. I’ve been talking with you guys for the last 3-4 hours,” he answered.
“When do you expect to first be able to sit down with him?” she asked.
“I don’t know. I don’t know, I just got here,” Gruden said. “I have to find a great staff, and that’s my first order of business.”
That answer didn’t stop Czarniak from tripling down on RG3 questions, leading to Gruden’s great, overwhelmed reaction.
“When you do have the opportunity to sit down with the franchise quarterback, RG3, what are you going to convey as your expectations for him as a leader for this team?”
