Jim Nantz takes shot at Jamaal Charles after costly fumble (Video)

Jamaal Charles

Fans who went to bed on Thursday night thinking the Kansas City Chiefs had beaten the Denver Broncos to gain a nice edge in the AFC West will wake up to nothing but shock.

The Chiefs allowed two touchdowns in the span of nine seconds to blow a 24-17 lead and lose 31-24 at Arrowhead Stadium Thursday night. One of the biggest culprits in the loss — aside from Andy Reid and his terrible playcalling/clock management — was Jamaal Charles, whose fumble was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by Bradley Roby with 27 seconds left to seal the deal.

The lost fumble was Charles’ second of the game, leading CBS announcer Jim Nantz to throw out this zinger during a shot of the running back smashing his helmet in frustration:

Though it won’t be as magnified, Charles’ fumble at the Broncos’ five in the first quarter was every bit as costly for the Chiefs.

No matter how well the defense played, this reminds us once and again that you’re not going to win many games when you commit five turnovers. And also let’s give credit to Nantz. Known for his vanilla, pre-planned calls at the end of games (or butchering them like this), I’d much rather hear him take shots at players when it’s called for.
