NFL Films ranks Tim Tebow ahead of Hall of Famers Earl Campbell, Marcus Allen as an NFL pro
As a college quarterback, there is no questioning what Tim Tebow was able to accomplish. A Heisman Trophy and two national titles in four years is not something that can be debated. As an NFL quarterback, Tebow has found ways to win. But is he one of the greatest Heisman-winning professionals of all time? According to NFL Films, he’s better than two legendary NFL Hall of Famers.
On the NFL Network Monday night, NFL Films presented a list of the “Top 10 Heisman Winners in the NFL.” Here is the list that the USA Today shared with us:
1. Barry Sanders
2. Roger Staubach
3. O.J. Simpson
4. Paul Hornung
5. Charles Woodson
6. Tony Dorsett
7. Tim Tebow
8. Earl Campbell
9. Marcus Allen
10. Cam Newton
Apparently through three combined NFL seasons, Tebow and Newton have earned the right to be discussed among some of the best players the game has ever seen. Some of the names that failed to make the top 10 include Bo Jackson, Carson Palmer, Tim Brown, Herschel Walker, Jim Plunkett, and Vinny Testaverde.
NFL Films felt that Tebow’s ability to translate his unique collegiate game to the NFL level puts him in the discussion. As far as Newton is concerned, his rookie season was phenomenal but it was one season. Obviously, the idea was to incorporate some of the game’s younger stars to capture a wider audience. That doesn’t make it any less insulting to those who were left off the list and those of us who are somewhat intelligent fans.
