Pete Carroll feels badly about Seahawks running fake punt while up 30

pete-carrollThe Seattle Seahawks rolled to victory for the second week in a row, blasting the Buffalo Bills 50-17 in Toronto on Sunday. They became the third team in NFL history to score at least 50 points in consecutive weeks, and they may have hurt some feelings in the process.

With less than 13 minutes left in the game and his team up by 30, coach Pete Carroll let his team run a fake punt. Michael Robinson took a handoff after the snap and gained 29 yards to take his team down to the Buffalo 14. The Seahawks ended up kicking a field goal on the drive to make it 50-17, which was the final score.

After the game, Carroll was apologetic for what many felt was an unsportsmanlike act.

“I feel bad about this,” Carroll told the media after the game. “I hear from the guys about the fake punt. That was part of our game plan. It was something I could have called off and I didn’t. It was an automatic for us, and I didn’t do it. It just happened. We’re trying to make first downs, so I let it go. It’s unfortunate that it comes across that we’re doing something wrong there. That’s my fault totally for not stopping it from happening.

“It was a very well executed play, we were looking forward to doing it, and when it popped up, it was just late in the game,” he said.

Carroll has no reason to feel badly in our eyes. Back in the day, I would have called this act unsportsmanlike, but I’ve seen way too many improbable comebacks in the NFL to complain about teams going hard despite having a big lead. There are professionals on both sides of the ball who are paid to go hard for 60 minutes, so nobody should apologize for that. I will, however, call Carroll stupid for letting his team run the fake punt.

Carroll could be seen smiling on the sidelines after the play was successful, and he even told his assistants “good job.” He knew exactly what he was doing, and it’s actions like that that can come back to burn them in the future. Buffalo will remember this, and they’ll be ticked the next time the teams meet (as long as that’s not in 3 or 4 years). Don’t lie, Pete, you knew what your team was doing and you were happy about it. Just give a Bill Belichick answer next time and say you don’t apologize for always going hard.

    I can’t stand that guy. What a classless A-Hole.

    What’s his deal?

Pete Carroll is the guy who asked Jim Harbaugh something similar to “What’s with you?”  when Stanford ran it up on his USC team a few years ago.  He is obviously disingenuous  when he allows the fake punt play this week after throwing two long passes in the fourth quarter with a 51-0 lead last week against the Cardinals.

Thus, it is not okay when he is a hypocrite of the first order.  As to your assertion that you have to stay aggressive in the NFL, I doubt that anyone believed the Cardinals could make a 51 point comeback in six minutes last week..

Its professional football ! It’s the best players in the world ! It’s not Pete Carroll’s job to keep his score down…..  It’s up to the defense they play to keep scores down !!

in his stint with the pats a decade ago, pete showed he is one of the all time worst bench coaches in the nfl.  a total choker who get’s mesmerized by the game while running around hugging his players with the game in question – see near collapse against bears two weeks ago.

to see him piling on when he has the lead shows the world what a classless piece of crap he is and has always been. he is desperate to be seen as an elite nfl coach – sorry pete you won’t get there by faking a punt with a 40 point lead.  look forward to your 1st round exit for this season’s playoffs at the hands of a real coach.

You are paid to coach the team to win games not dance around for twenty minutes so the other team isn’t embarrassed. No one apologized to the Hawks faithful when Pittsburgh embarrassed us in SB XL so don’t apologize now.

The crap Seattle has pulled all this season in order to win is ridiculous. I live in the NW and the fans have the same attitude. My youngest daughter went to Seattle for their game with the Jets. She wore her Jets stuff and one woman told her kids to avert their eyes when my daughter walked by. Also, Carroll knew when to leave USC and I contend that he knew when the @#$@ was going to hit the fan! I believe in karma and his actions will come back to haunt the Seahawks because of his actions! Shame on him.

Boohoo. That’s all you have against the Seahawks fans, avert your eyes? They shoot people in San Francisco for crying out loud. We have some of the nicest fans around, you just haven’t been to other stadiums around the league. Try a Raider home game wearing the vistors jersey and let me know how that goes.

Don Drysdale once said “You play to win.” You don’t let down when you’re winning, not a game, not a war. You aren’t there to keep it close or manipulate the score or the game…THAT is cheating. You are there to WIN and too bad if the other side doesn’t answer. I don’t believe Crazy Horse pulled the plug on his first team and sent in the scrubs against Custer, just ‘cuz the latter was losing badly, did he? In sports and war, you play to win and save the whining for another time. Besides, next time the Bills play the Seahawks in some inter conference game…..think of the anticipation for revenge. That IS what sports are about……..it ISN’T about not allowing a kid to strike out in a little league game, a la a recent movie. It’s about accepting the fact that this is what competition, real world style, is all about. If the Bills didn’t like it, they could always walk off the field and QUIT. They didn’t. It’s just reality and reality often BITES.

When I pay money to see a game, I want to see both teams give it all they’ve got till the final buzzer. Who came up with the idea that coasting is good sportsmanship?

Yeah try wearing your Jets gear at a KC game…2 years ago their fans beat a guy into a coma!!!  The Hawks pull nothing to win games, blame the refs if your unhappy.  Oh and lastly, STOP SNIVELING LIKE SOME LITTLE B!tCH!!!!

Quite a few TROLLS on this page

  • Braverheart

I am not snivelling I am just stating the facts. My daughter added $500 to your economy! Remember football is just a game and you Seahawks fans are going to get yours in the end just like Harbaugh from SanFrancisco! People are not stupid and can turn on a dime. Carrrol has outworn his welcome at USC and in a couple years when the cycle switches against him in Seattle his bad decisions will come back to bite him in the butt.

“Buffalo will remember this, and they’ll be ticked the next time the teams meet (as long as that’s not in 3 or 4 years).”

Well, unless these teams meet in the SuperBowl they won’t meet again for 4 years. Doh!
