Tim Tebow Jesus Jerseys Draw Mixed Emotions from Holiday Shoppers

Remember the jersey that you see in the picture above?  Of course you do, because back in the summer we here at LBS made you aware that these bad boys existed.  That’s right, Broncos fans have come up with the brilliant idea of customizing Tim Tebow jerseys by putting the name of the most important man in Tebow’s life on the back.  As expected, the jerseys have drawn a mixed reaction from people who think it is disrespectful to the Christian faith and others who see it as humorous or a compliment.

“Sports is one thing, and Jesus is another thing,” Traci Yown, a mom out Christmas shopping for her son, said according to KTVQ. “I like to have their names, their last names on the jerseys. I’m a Christian, but I mean I wouldn’t want people going around having Jesus on the back of their jerseys.”

Not all Christians share Yown’s feelings on the matter, however.  In fact, Rev. Marcus Buckley of the Riverside Baptist Church thinks people who have a problem with the name Jesus being printed on the back of a jersey must feel that it’s wrong to express their love for Jesus.

“To me it just shows a cultural bias against Christ and Christianity,” Rev. Buckley said. “It’s not saying that he is Christ, it’s saying he’s trying to demonstrate and live that out and as Christians that’s what were supposed to do. You can pretty much believe whatever you want to in today’s society. But as soon as you begin taking a stand for Christ, then that’s not acceptable anymore.”

There you have it: Two completely different opinions from people with similar religious beliefs.  Whether you think Jesus jerseys or Tebowing are disrespectful or not, we can all agree that Tebow Nation has an interesting way of spreading the Christian faith.

Intriguing.  Cam newton was overhyped, Tebow was killed by the left, I am an eagles fan (SIC) but I hope the broncos go all the way, just to piss off the liberals.

Yeah I know about new4jax. I quit posting there because they made us put our facebook name on there. I mean seriously, in this day and age I sure don’t want my name on there. People are liable to come and kill your a$$ if they find out who you really are! All they have to do is look you up on the interent and come right to your house! And it’s to much trouble for me to make up a facebook page just to comment on news4jax lol. I do read the blogs though and I do see you but like I said I refuse to sign into my facebook account!!! Well it was nice chatting with you  again and I hope to see you on these blogs! I dont come often but I do come every now and then! Take care dude!!!

Yea, I agree. They did that to try and keep people from making such harsh comments. I am with you though, people are crazy as hizell these days, the last thing you want to do is have someone show up at your front door ready to kill you over some stupid comment on a news story…

  • Anonymous

Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. I am going to say what I have to say whether you like it or not. Never mind if you agree or not I am still going to say it. But when you post there now you do stand a real chance of someone coming to your door and killing you over a comment you made over an article on news4jax! It’s not worth it at all!!!

I never said Tim Tebow profits from this shirt. I said he profits from Christianity… and profits from promoting a company named after the pagan goddess Nike. I like Tim Tebow, but it is time that he and others realize that God is not pleased with a company named Nike… and God is not pleased when Christians endorse it! It is the name of a pagan goddess! And guess where that name originated. I’ll give you a hint… It wasn’t God.

Tebow has done what no other Christian sports figure has done, he has millions of footbal fans talking about Jesus, and reciting Bible verses. That’s what is amazing. And as far as him winning games, don’t forget he is playing on a mediocre team, with a mediocre offensive line. I wonder how he would do with a good team. Jacksonville was very foolish not to have drafted him. GO TEBOW!!!

Lighten up Charlie. Do you really think Tebow has a contract with Nike to put out Jesus Jerseys? Highly unlikely. Why don’t you quit focusing on sin that Christ took away at the Cross 2000 years ago and start walking in the wonderful Grace through His resurrected Eternal Life that he offers all of us spiritually dead sinners. Then you might be able walk in that Grace and actually lead someone to Christ. Who are you to say Tim Tebows walk is not right? Of course Jesus served God 100% because He lived the perfect Life in our place that we could never live! We are screw ups! But His free gift of Salvation and finished work at the Cross is what makes us want to evangelize as God intended. Christ said in Mark 2:17 “It is not the healthy who
need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but
sinners. Also one of my fav. Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Ahhh Praise God, makes you want to walk in Grace anytime God needs you too and allow him to touch others through us. So once again I say to you, Lighten up Charlie.

I DON’T THINK TIM WANTS TO PROFIT THE FROM THE JERSEY. HE DOES A LOT OF MISSION WORK OVER SEA SO HE’S ALWAYS GIVING. THAT WOULD ONE TO SUPPORT WHAT HE’S DOING. BY THE WAY I HAVN’T HEARD NIKE COME OUT TIM’S MOUTH ONE TIME SO I WOULDNT CALL THAT GIVING HONOR. NIKE IS BLESSED TO HAVE TIM. TIM IS NOT BLESSED TO HAVE NIKE. CHECK THIS OUT, JESUS DIDN’T SERVE GOD HE IS 100% GOD. YOU SAID ONE THING RIGHT,JESUS SHOULD BE IN EVERYONES HEART. IF JESUS WAS IN EVERYONES HEART WE WOULDN’T BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION. AND IT SURE WOULDN’T BE A PROBLEM WITH THE NAME OF JESUS BEING  ON THE BACK A JERSEY. IF JESUS (GOD) WANTS TO USE TIM TO GET US TO TALK ABOUT HIM ( JESUS, GOD ) AND KNOW WHO HE REALLY IS IT SEEMS TO ME  IT’S WORKING

Tim Tebow has started a total of 5 games. His record as a starter is an impressive 4-1.  And just beat up Mark Sanchez and the Jets in Denver. Most of his wins were on the road but got it done at home too. Hate it or love it the underdog is on top.

  • Anonymous

Excuse me am I old enough to have watched him play? I went to the same High School and played College Ball at LA TECH in Ruston, LA 5 years after he went pro. He was our practice film hero. I have met him on a dozen occasions. His highlight films and games were not very pretty and they ran the ball 65% of the time and Denver I believe is at 70. Our team was overshadowed by the success of him. And i am a personal admirer of him. And the steel curtain as it was so named didnt help him stay in the games did it. He didnt need to get a lot of points to get the job done just needed to lead his team to the promised land. Denver is an awful 4-14 without him and is 4-1 with him. Any questions???

In Cam Newton’s defense ,Carolina is playing a harder schedule . But a QB’s job is to manage the offense to its strengths to get a win , Thats what Tebow does . As the late Al Davis said ” Just Win Baby “

  • http://www.facebook.com/tgoodhouse Abbie Good House

First off.. IF I PUBLICALLY THANK GOD FOR HELPING ME AND BLESSING ME, AND PEOPLE SEE ME AND COPY…DOES THAT MEAN IM PROFITING OFF OF CHRISTIANITY? I HAPPEN TO BELIEVE THAT WHENEVER SOMEONE BRINGS GOD OR JESUS INTO BIG SPORTS EVERYONE PANICKS AND SAYS THAT, THAT IS WRONG. AND SINCE TEBOW IS NOT BEING A TRADITIONAL, DRUNK, OVERLY EXHUBERANT, SNOT HEADED QB THEN THAT MUST MEAN HE IS USING GOD AS A MONEY TICKET…WRONG. HE IS JUST GIVING PRAISE..AND MEANING IT BY THE WAY…TO THE ONE BEING, THE ONE CREATOR THAT HAS BLESSED HIM. GOD IS EVERYWHERE AND CAN BELONG IN ANYTHING… SO PARDON TIM FOR BRINGING GOD INTO FOOTBALL. TONY DUNGEE DID THE SAME THING FOR THE COLTS, INCORPORATING PRAYER INTO GAMES AND PRACTICES..DOES THAT MEAN HE WAS PROFITING OFF CHRISTIANITY? BASICALLY YOU’RE SAYING THAT IF A PRO ATHELETE OPENLY GIVES THANKS TO GOD OR SAYS A QUICK PRAYER THEN HE IS JUST MOOCHING OFF OUR LORD… AND FYI… THE FANS MADE THE JERSEYS.. MAYBE IF YOU UNDERSTOOD THAT INSTEAD OF REITERATING THE SAME LAME EXCUSES OVER AND OVER AGAIN YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND. TIM NEVER ASKED THEM TO MAKE THOSE.. THEY DID IT OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL.. IF THEY THINK ABOUT GOD OR JESUS WHENEVER THEY HEAR THE NAME TIM TEBOW THAN I AM ONE HAPPY CHRISTIAN BECAUSE THAT MEANS THAT TEBOW IS BEING A GREAT CHRISTIAN BECAUSE THEY ARE ABLE TO SEE THE LIGHT JESUS SHINES THROUGH HIM. AND SO WHAT IF ITS NIKE… HASNT IT EVER OCCURED TO YOU THAT GOD IS BIGGER THAN A FALSE IDOL? HE IS BIGGER THAN A NAME, HE IS GREATER, STRONGER THAN ANY GREEK GOD… SO JUST BECAUSE NIKE IS A NAME ON A PEICE OF CLOTHING, GOD CAN TURN THAT AROUND AND MAKE IT INTO A POSITIVE… SO STOP SPEAKING ON GOD’S BEHALF ABOUT HIM BEING ANGRY AT PEOPLE… OR THAT GOD IS NOT PLEASED IF PEOPLE ENDORSE IT. YOU ARE NOT GOD, STOP PASSING JUDGEMENT, DONT WORRY YOURSELF WITH WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING. THE MOST YOU CAN DO IS PRAY FOR THEM AND MOVE ON, OTHERWISE YOU SHALL BE JUDGED BY THE VERY MEASURING STICK YOU JUDGE OTHERS WITH…AND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING….DONT BE A BITTER CHRISTIAN…. THATS NOT WHAT GOD ASKED US TO BE. JESUS SAID LOVE ONE ANOTHER… HE DIDNT SAY, NIT PICK ONE ANOTHER AND POINT OUT FLAWS AND TRY TO OUT CHRISTIAN EACH OTHER… HE SAID LOVE ONE ANOTHER…. So get to loving man… otherwise all this stuff will just grow out of control like it has…

Jesus has a place in EVERYTHING! He created it all and it all belongs to him. Tim Tebow said on Thursday night It’s not about football. It’s about some thing bigger. He has a platform and he’s going to use it. Thank God we haven’t reached the place in the USA where this isn’t allowed any longer. I support Tebow 100%. Preach it, brother!

I find it odd that my husband has a Cowboys jersey with Witten on the back of it and no one criticizes him for it (even when he wears it to church) or confuses him with being Witten. Why should Tebow be ‘under the microscope’ for being a fan of Jesus? None of us can serve Him 100%. That was why Jesus made the sacrifice of His death in the first place. We all fail Him. Kudos go to Tim for making the effort in the first place.

Tebow is living his life as he understands his faith is leading him.  In America, we all have this right.  Shame on the people who would criticize this simple act of goodness.  He brings no harm to anyone, nor
does he criticize his teammates for their personal choices.  This is his free expression and choice.  Bravo to the Denver Broncs for supporting Tebow in his American freedom.

Hate to break it to you but you don’t get credit for anything good in your life as a Christian. Your righteousness is a filthy rag. When you get off your high horse, come back down to earth and join the rest of us hypocrites in living our not so perfect Christian lives while being perfected and completed in Christ. Also get the friggin log out of your eye guy!

Are you kidding me? Tim Tebow is the only athlete in a long time that despite criticism has consistently put his faith out there for all to see. He is living in the Light while in the limelight! Nike really? You’re claiming that God does not have his whole heart because of Nike? Seems like you are grasping at the only straw Satan has provided you. All blessings come from God and he deserves every bit of it. I assume that your judgemental attitude can and does spill out into your daily life as well…please understand that this type of hatred keeps the lost from finding Christ. Tim Tebow is not afraid of persecution and continues to exhibit his beliefs without wavering; I just find it sad that the persecution is coming from fellow Christians. If God had your whole heart he would have your support and encouragement instead of your nit picking. Think about it…

    1) Teebow rocks 2) John Elway is an OLD FART. If he got sacked, he’d break a hip. He needs to stay in retirement, where he belongs. Don’t get me wrong, he used to be great. KEYWORDS: Used to be.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002441520824 Janine Johnson

In this day and age, it seems the most effective way to reach people is through advertisement.  I thank God every time the occasion calls for it and frankly, if Teebow takes a knee and prays on the feild, it’s because the “power of Christ compels him!”, NOT  because he’s advertising his faith. Plus, the Bible says not to hide your faith from the public. I doubt Teebow cares whether there are 100 cameras trained on him, or if he’s in the privacy of his house, he’s gonna pray, regardless.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002441520824 Janine Johnson

I find it hard to believe you’re criticizing Americans, because your right, we would get offended by a jersey that said Mohammed. Here’s why
    1) We are a country FOUNDED on CHRIST and CHRISTIAN priciples
    2) We were attacked by Muslim extremists on 9/11 (only ten years ago), and people like them are attacking and terrorizing other nations, brutally and viciously.
    3) We are currently AT WAR with a Muslim country.

Why on earth we be completely open-minded and support jerseys that say Mohammed on them?

Can you direct me to where in the Constitution rrit says that?

It is sad to see all of us (yes, “us”, because we are united through Christ, weather we want it or not) Christians fighting and arguing on here. The very name we are arguing about is the one that unites us all together! and the real battle is not between us, but we need to be setting the example for the people who haven’t trusted in Christ as their personal savior. What kind of reputation are we building when argue like this? our goal as Christians should be to bring more people to Christ, not to turn people away because we argue.

But about this topic, I don’t think this is an issue that should be causing us to fight. and i think that it can be wrong if people do it for the wrong reasons, such as: for money, attention, or blasphemy. But I do believe that Christ is the reason he wins each game he does, it is not through his own strength. and there fore, i would think that it would make sense that Jesus gets the glory for it.

    Praying for you all!

I have an IDEA! Instead of debating Tebow +/- or Jesus pro or con. . .let’s put our money where our mouth is and DONATE to http://www.timtebowfoundation.org and HELP people truly in need.  Jesus is LORD, Tebow is a great athlete and good example for young folks. If everybody put just $1 in the foundation, it would prosper beyond belief. God bless you all — thanks for reading.

It is suppose to be  that the defense was tremendous, but there is the intangible “phenomenon Tebow”. I guess that deserves discussion about what the Broncos record would have Kyle Orton continued to play. It looked like a losing team with Orton. The D is great, but Tebow say what someone should get some credit for the 7-1. QB is usually judged by victory and defeat plain and simple. The numbers may not be there but the most important. Now this could be the Trent Dilfer argument again, but these reimbursements fourth quarter just make the discussion more interesting.anyway, for more news, we can visit http://www.tebowformvp.com/… thanx
