Darren Sharper gets 18 years in prison for multiple rapes

Darren Sharper

Darren Sharper is going to the big house for a long time.

The former NFL safety was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for drugging and raping multiple women across multiple states. The charges involve nine women but the judge says there could have been as many as 16.

Sharper agreed to a plea deal that initially was going to put him away for nine years, but the judge decided that wasn’t enough and increased the sentence. Sharper pleaded guilty or no contest to multiple charges related to drugging and raping the victims.

Two of Sharper’s friends/accomplices are awaiting sentencing that will come in October. One is expected to get 17 years and the other 10.

Sharper played 14 seasons in the NFL, intercepted nine passes in a season three times, leading the league in that category twice. He was named to five Pro Bowls and is a two-time All-Pro player.
