Reuben Foster turns Auburn tattoo into tribute to his murdered cousin (Picture)

Five-star linebacker recruit Reuben Foster may have officially committed to Alabama back in February when he dressed as Nick Saban on signing day, but he is keeping his famous Auburn tattoo. Rather than going through the expensive and painful process of having it removed, Foster has had some additional work done to turn the ink into a tribute to his cousin Ladarious Phillips.

Phillips, a former Auburn fullback, was shot and killed last year a month after Foster changed his commitment from Alabama to Auburn and got a tattoo on his right forearm to prove it. Foster says one of the reasons he wanted to play for the Tigers was so he could play with his cousin. He later flipped back to Alabama but insisted he would be keeping the tattoo. Here’s what it used to look like.

Reuben Foster’s father arrested after 16 years on run as fugitive

Reuben Foster fatherMany sports fans knew a few things about Reuben Foster. We knew he was a top linebacker prospect and that he got an Auburn tattoo before decommitting and signing to play with Alabama. But many of us did not know that his father was a fugitive who escaped jail in 1996 after being indicted for shooting him and his mother.

US Marshals said they captured Danny Foster, 41, in Miami on Friday, according to The Associated Press. Foster allegedly shot his wife, Inita Barry Paige, in 1996 while she was holding Reuben, who was 18 months old at the time.

Danny Foster was indicted in Alabama, fled to California where he was caught and extradited back to Randolph County. He escaped jail and has been a fugitive since Dec. 1996.

Foster was found in Florida where he had assumed a new identity, living as Jefferson McClendon. He will be extradited back to Randolph County.

Paige was shot in the back and suffered a collapsed lung from the shooting. She had mixed feelings about her estranged husband’s capture.

Reuben Foster dresses as Nick Saban while signing Alabama letter of intent (Picture)

Reuben Foster has officially signed his letter of intent with Alabama. Most of you have probably heard of the five-star linebacker recruit from Auburn (Ala.) High School. Foster is the dude who committed to Alabama last July before switching his commitment to Auburn and getting this tattoo to prove it. It turns out that getting the ink was a bit of a rash decision, as Foster later decommitted from Auburn and went back to — you guessed it — Alabama.

On Wednesday morning, Foster made it clear that he is excited to play for Nick Saban next season by dressing up like the three-time SEC Coach of The Year.

Saban typically comes across as a pretty serious guy, so Foster must already be pretty comfortable with him to go down that road. Five-star recruits can probably get away with a little more than the average high school player.

Reuben Foster keeping Auburn tattoo despite decommitting from school

There was once a time when five-star linebacker recruit Reuben Foster was so certain he would be playing college ball at Auburn that he got a tattoo to prove it. Then, the Tigers struggled through a 3-9 season and fired Gene Chizik. According to Al.com, Foster has decommitted from Auburn and is now considering Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Washington and Miami. So, about that tattoo…

After the news began circulating that he had decommitted from Auburn on Tuesday, Foster posted the following message on Twitter:

Former Auburn player Ladarious Phillips (Foster should probably learn how to spell his cousin’s name) was killed in a shooting that took place near the Auburn campus last summer. I’m sure whatever school Foster decides to commit to will respect his tattoo tribute, but I can’t imagine there have ever been many Auburn tattoos in the Alabama locker room. Remember, we’re talking about fan bases that poison each other’s trees.

It’s no surprise that Foster no longer wants to play at Auburn after they fired Chizik and dismissed all of their assistant coaches. However, his story should serve as a lesson to college recruits across the country. Don’t use ink to make your announcements — haircuts get the message across just fine.

The Auburn (Ala.) High School product said he was announcing his decision so he could put it behind him and begin getting prepared for college.

Foster dressed up his daughter in an Auburn outfit and used her as a prop to announce which school he chose. He also showed off a new tattoo with the Auburn logo on his forearm to show his commitment was really sealed in ink:
