Video: Rafael Nadal Cramps During Press Conference, Slumps Down
By Larry Brown September 4, 2011 - Posted in Tennis

Rafael Nadal beat David Nalbandian in the third round of the U.S. Open Sunday 7-6, 6-1, 7-5. Nadal had to fight through a blister on his foot and even took an injury timeout to get taped during the match. But it was after the match when he showed his true discomfort.

Speaking to the media during his post-match press conference, Nadal began suffering from cramps and slumped down in his chair. Let’s roll the video:

Nadal, who has won all three of his matches in straight sets, spoke with Mary Jo Fernandez after the cramps and said all was well. He explained that it was humid on the courts and that he was sweating a lot. Nadal says this is a common issue for him though it’s the first time it’s happened in a press conference. No doubt his critics will say he was putting on a show — that was certainly a bizarre display.

Unless this is something more serious than cramps, Nadal is truly a drama queen.
