Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had an interesting wardrobe selection when he showed up to the ballpark for Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday, and it is one that left Toronto Blue Jays fans feeling extremely uneasy.
Hours before the Blue Jays faced the Seattle Mariners with a World Series berth on the line, Guerrero showed up to the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, wearing an Auston Matthews jersey. Matthews, of course, is the captain and leader of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Most people had the same reaction to Guerrero choosing to rock the Matthews jersey:

Someone tell him a leafs jersey is not what you want to be wearing for any game 7 ever

Might as well walk past a black cat and under a ladder at this point

The Maple Leafs have lost seven consecutive Game 7’s in the NHL playoffs. Their latest Game 7 loss was a complete blowout at the hands of the Florida Panthers in the second round last season, and fans could not have been more disgusted.
On one hand, Guerrero’s wardrobe choice shows a lot of confidence. The slugger obviously is not afraid of curses. Guerrero has been pummeling the ball during the playoffs, so maybe he even feels he can help bring the Maple Leafs some luck this year.
The Maple Leafs begin their 2025-26 on Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils. If Guerrero can help lead the Blue Jays to a Game 7 win after wearing a Matthews jersey, that might be a good omen for the Leafs.
