A cast of Oakland Braves is assembling in Atlanta.
Robert Murray of FanSided reported on Wednesday that the Braves have signed veteran outfielder Ramon Laureano. It is a minor-league deal for Laureano, who will begin in Triple-A Gwinnett.
The 29-year-old righty-hitting Laureano was just recently released by the Cleveland Guardians after spending parts of the last two seasons with them. But he is better known for his stint with the Oaland Athletics from 2018-23. Laureano, who was teammates with current Braves slugger Matt Olson in Oakland, enjoyed his best career season in 2019 when he hit .288 with 24 home runs and 67 RBIs. He is also remembered for helping to spark one of the wilder MLB brawls in recent years.
With experience in both center field and right field, Laureano should eventually be an option on the MLB roster for the Braves, who just lost Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending ACL tear. Coincidentally, they were also just linked to a current Oakland player as a possible trade target.
