A player that the Chicago White Sox hoped would be an important part of their long-term rebuild won’t be pitching for the better part of the next two years.
The White Sox announced Monday that pitcher Carlos Rodon will undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2019 season. The team hopes that he will be able to pitch again in the second half of 2020.
Carlos Rodón will undergo Tommy John surgery later this week. The timing of his return will be subject to his scheduled surgery date, but Rick Hahn expects him to be ready by the second half of the 2020 season.

Rodon has had terrible luck with injuries. A shoulder injury wrecked most of his 2018, and now he’ll lose the bulk of 2019 and 2020 as well. The former third overall pick has shown promise when healthy, but his left arm just won’t cooperate with him.
