After swinging a move for one impact lefty at last year’s trade deadline in Jose Quintana, the Chicago Cubs could be at it again this year.
Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reported on Tuesday that the Cubs are eyeing former All-Star Cole Hamels of the Texas Rangers. He also mentions that the National League Central leaders are trying to acquire Zach Britton along with Kevin Gausman from the Baltimore Orioles.
While the Cubs’ interest in trading with the O’s has been established, Hamels makes for an interesting possibility. The 34-year-old has not been good this season, posting a horrific 10.22 ERA in the month of July and a 4.72 ERA on the year as a whole. But it doesn’t help that Hamels is relying on a lackluster Rangers offense for support or that he is pitching in the most hitter-friendly park in baseball this season (per ESPN).

Granted, Hamels may be hoping for a Philadelphia Phillies reunion. But it was not too long ago that Cubs fans were lobbying for their team to acquire him.
