Max Scherzer may be the best pitcher in baseball right now, but unfortunately, we won’t be seeing him on the mound in Cleveland for the All-Star game.
The Washington Nationals’ ace would have been eligible to take part in the game as he pitched Saturday, not Sunday. However, he withdrew due to lingering back tightness that doesn’t sound serious.
Mac Scherzer has been dealing with back tightness since his start in Detroit last Sunday, which is why he decided to not pitch in the All Star game. He felt it again yesterday but is confident it’ll resolve itself by his next outing.

Scherzer is still going to Cleveland and is excited to take his daughter Brooke with him. He and his wife, Erica, welcomed their second daughter this week.

Considering Scherzer pitched through a broken nose this season, this is precautionary and he’d probably make his next start were it a meaningful game. As it is, there’s no use risking it needlessly.
