The New York Mets have issued an apologetic statement over what happened in the clubhouse after Sunday’s game.
The Mets said they “sincerely regret” what happened between Mickey Callaway, Jason Vargas, and reporter Tim Healey of Newsday. They added they have already apologized to Healey and will speak further with everyone involved.
Statement from the Mets:
“The Mets sincerely regret the incident that took place with one of our beat writers following today’s game in the clubhouse. We do not condone this type of behavior from any employee.

"The organization has reached out and apologized to this reporter and will have further discussions internally with all involved parties.”

In other words, the Mets don’t appear to be assigning any blame to Healey for the fact that Callaway swore repeatedly at him and Vargas challenged him to a fight. The consequences for Callaway and Vargas — if there are any — remain unclear, but it seems likely that the incident will be further addressed on Monday.
