Bryce Young’s future with the Carolina Panthers once again appears to be in doubt.
Teams around the league believe the Panthers could bench Young for a second consecutive season, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN. Young may have to improve quickly, or he will be at risk of losing his job to Andy Dalton.
The Panthers are 2-3 this season, but that does not necessarily signal that Young has played well. He has completed only 60.9 percent of his passes and has seven touchdowns to go along with four interceptions. The former No. 1 overall pick threw for 328 yards in a Week 4 loss to Arizona, but has not reached 200 passing yards in any other game.
Carolina benched Young after two games last season. He eventually reclaimed the job after Dalton got hurt, and he played slightly better, but not overwhelmingly so.
Young may be finishing his time with Carolina either way. The Panthers will have to decide on his fifth-year option after this season, and he has not necessarily given them any reason to believe major improvement is coming. It is entirely plausible that he will find himself on a new team next season unless things get better quickly.
