Boston Red Sox fans can only watch with envy as an American League rival calls up its rising star, Jac Caglianone.
On Sunday, several reporters confirmed that the Kansas City Royals were elevating Caglianone to their big-league club. The move in itself was far from surprising. The Royals have one of the best pitching staffs in the majors, anchored by ace pitcher Kris Bubic’s historic season.
Kansas City, which ranks dead last in runs in the AL, desperately needs the offensive help Caglianone may be able to provide. The Florida alum has slashed .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs across 50 minor-league games combined this season.
What annoyed Red Sox fans about the Caglianone call-up was that Boston isn’t doing the same with the team’s own top prospect, Roman Anthony. Several Red Sox fans expressed as much in the responses to posts about Caglianone.
When is Roman Anthony getting called up?

Is Roman Anthony just the memories we made along the way?

The last post was a Red Sox fan calling out the team’s Chief Baseball Officer, Craig Breslow, for leaving Anthony in the minors.
Caglianone is the top prospect in the Royals’ system and a top-10 prospect based on MLB’s top-100 rankings. But Anthony is the No. 1 overall prospect in all of baseball. The Red Sox draftee already has three full years of minor league reps but has yet to take a single MLB at-bat.
Red Sox fans have complained about Anthony not being called up since March. Their gripes are only growing louder.
