Zack Greinke offers funny take on his first home run of season
Zack Greinke threw six innings in a win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night, but what he did at the plate was far more impressive than his performance on the mound. You would never have known that by the way his teammates reacted.
In addition to striking out 10 batters, Greinke belted two home runs. The first was a three-run shot that gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead in the fourth, and they never trailed after that. Following the first homer, Greinke’s teammates gave him the silent treatment in the dugout. He shared some funny thoughts on that after the win.
Zack Greinke on getting the silent treatment in the #Dbacks dugout after his homer: "I told them it was the first time I wanted anyone to talk to me all year. And they didn’t want to talk to me then."

Greinke is generally a quiet guy who has been open in the past about having a social anxiety disorder, so he was probably trying to make light of that. While he’s not known for having a big personality and speaking up much, we know he has come out with some pretty funny stuff in the past.
While Greinke has eight homers in his career, he is the first pitcher aged 35 or older to hit two home runs in a game since 1957. That’s a feat worth bragging about.
