Anthony Davis after Pelicans’ 0-4 start: ‘It’s frustrating’

Anthony-Davis-Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans are winless through their first four games of the 2016-17 season, and the futility is beginning to take its toll on All-Star big man Anthony Davis.

After a 117-113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, Davis couldn’t help but express his disappointment.

“Definitely frustrating,” Davis said, per Justin Verrier of ESPN. “We can’t get a win. It’s frustrating.”

The sluggish start is certainly not the fault of Davis, who has been carrying the team with superhuman averages of 37.5 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.0 steals, and 3.0 blocks per game through those first four contests.

Outside of Davis though, the Pelicans are down a lot of talent with Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday sidelined to begin the season and both Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson departing in free agency over the summer. As a result, they’re left with something that barely resembles an NBA-caliber roster to support their stud big.

Forced to be a one-man wrecking crew, Davis has a good chance to lead the league in scoring this year (as this fellow Western Conference superstar would agree). But the individual popcorn stats haven’t been enough to get New Orleans in the win column, forcing Davis to question what it’s all for anyway.
