Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is turning to some … unorthodox methods with his team down 3-1 to the Boston Celtics.
The Sixers had their team dinner on Tuesday night, and Brown brought along a mentalist (a magician who performs psychic feats) to perform for them, hoping to calm their nerves before Wednesday’s Game 5 in Boston.
“He does some pretty incredible stuff,” said Sixers guard TJ McConnell of the mentalist, per Ian Begley of ESPN. “It was just fun. Brett does a good job of that, not having a real businesslike dinner. It was more calm and funny.”
Begley adds that the mentalist, who spent a night with the team on a road trip last season as well, did card tricks and mind-reading exercises for them, even guessing the identities of some players’ ex-girlfriends. McConnell and others credited Brown for creating a relaxed environment with the performance.
The Sixers will definitely need some magic of their own as they look to become the first team in NBA history to come back from down 0-3. That being said, this might not even be the strangest experiment they have tried this season.
