Did Russell Westbrook tell campers he’s staying with Thunder?
With Kevin Durant out of the picture in Oklahoma City, there is speculation that Russell Westbrook will see no reason to stick around when his contract expires after the 2016-2017 season. Those who attended Westbrook’s camp last week were told a different story.
According to a person familiar with what went on at Westbrook’s camp, the star point guard said multiple times he does not intend to leave the Thunder.
So Russ, at his camp asked the kids how many were coming back next year cause he was gonna be here. Said it like 3 times. #InRussWeTrust

Of course, Durant made similar remarks on many occasions last season, and he ended up signing with the Golden State Warriors. Assuming the Thunder don’t trade Westbrook (which might be a possibility), the 27-year-old will likely see how things go next season before deciding if he wants a max contract in OKC or elsewhere.
One report actually claims Westbrook is more likely to stay with the Thunder now that Durant is gone. That meshes with a different report about one of the reasons K.D. decided to leave. Perhaps Westbrook will embrace not having to share the spotlight for a change.
