Gregg Popovich: LaVar Ball’s opinion is ‘meaningless’
Gregg Popovich is the latest NBA coach to weigh in on LaVar Ball, and let’s just say the San Antonio Spurs head coach is not a fan of the Big Baller Brand proprietor.
Pop was asked prior to Thursday’s Spurs-Lakers game about Lonzo Ball. He did not offer an opinion on the Lakers rookie, perhaps in an effort to avoid headlines.
Gregg Popovich asked what he thinks of Lonzo as a player. “I haven’t watched him. … If I have to watch film that’s what assistant coaches are for. Jerry Sloan taught me that.”

However, Pop did talk about Lonzo’s big-mouthed father, LaVar. Popovich says LaVar’s opinion is “meaningless”
Popovich on LaVar: "The first thing to look at is the substance, the gravitas of the source that speaks. Just stopping at that point would tell you you don’t need to listen or go any further. It’s just another fan in the peanut gallery with an opinion. Which is meaningless.”

He’s right – LaVar’s opinion should not carry any weight. But when he’s out there bad-mouthing Luke Walton, that’s going to create headlines.
The problem is people pay attention to LaVar and like to comment on him one way or another. That is the result of a societal problem that Steve Kerr mentioned.
