Hawks keeping roster spot open for Vince Carter if he wants it

Vince Carter is still holding out for the right opportunity to play out his final NBA season, but he has a good fallback plan in place in any event.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported this Thursday that the Hawks, who currently have two available roster spots, are keeping one of them open for the 42-year-old if he wants it.

Carter, who remains unsigned, averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game for a young Atlanta team last season, balancing veteran leadership with a decent-sized role in the rotation.

We know that the former All-Star does not have much interest in ring-chasing, so a return to the Hawks seems to make sense on a couple of different levels.
