Report: JR Smith not likely to face charges for beating vandal who smashed his car

JR Smith was shown on video last week pummeling a man who allegedly vandalized his truck during a protest, but it does not sound like the free agent sharpshooter is going to face charges over the incident.

Multiple sources involved with the situation told TMZ that Smith is not expected to be charged. The man on the receiving end of the beating has not gone to the police or filed a report, and law enforcement officials believe he is unlikely to do so. If he doesn’t file a report or try to press charges, prosecutors will not pursue charges against Smith.

Smith said he watched a man smash the window of his truck for no apparent reason during a protest near his home in Los Angeles. The 34-year-old sprinted outside and kicked the vandal numerous times and landed at least one shot to the head. You can see the original video here.

While Smith was largely applauded for standing up to someone who appeared to be taking advantage of police brutality protests by causing chaos and destruction, he has since said he regrets the incident.
