Kawhi Leonard is a coveted asset once again, and the Los Angeles Clippers appear likely to be fielding calls on him this summer.
The Clippers received “multiple” trade inquiries for Leonard right up to the trade deadline on Thursday, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. The calls intensified after the Clippers traded Ivica Zubac to Indiana, suggesting that the team was open for business on established veterans.
Stein added that teams will likely continue to monitor the Leonard situation into the offseason and may once again try to test the Clippers with trade offers.
Leonard will be entering the final season of his contract next year, which had already launched speculation about his future. The 34-year-old is eligible for an extension, but also has a lengthy injury history and will require a lot of money to keep around.
On the other hand, Leonard is in one of the best stretches of his career right now. He is averaging 28 points per game and has led the Clippers back into the playoff race after their 6-21 start to the season.
