Kawhi Leonard’s sister addresses Instagram video saying brother is leaving Raptors

Kawhi Leonard’s sister, Miesha Slayton, went live on social media to celebrate with Raptors fans after the team advanced to the NBA Finals over the weekend, but she ended up making headlines when someone in the background of the video indicated Leonard plans to leave Toronto as a free agent. According to Slayton, that person doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Slayton, who deleted the video, says the voice people heard saying “they know darn well that he ain’t gonna be here next year” belonged to a Raptors hater. She tried to explain the situation in some responses to fans on Instagram Sunday.

“I was watching the game and a hater was mad the whole game … When we won, I WENT LIVE and who ever he was said what he said simple as that,” Slayton wrote to one fan.

Most people didn’t buy the excuse, since it would be a surprise if Slayton was watching her brother’s game with people who were rooting against him and his team. There was speculation that the voice was that of Leonard’s uncle, Dennis Robertson, who is heavily involved with Kawhi’s career. Slayton claims she was in California watching the game and Robertson was not with her.

“He’s not even in Cali … Yall I was watching the game and it was Raptors haters there so when I went live they said what they said … Haters gonna hate,” she wrote.

Slayton shared the same story in a direct message with another fan who posted a screenshot of the interaction.

It would hardly be a surprise if Leonard had no intention of remaining in Toronto, as there have already been reports of the specific teams he is eyeing this summer. Whether Slayton is telling the truth or not, Raptors fans should enjoy the ride. Unless something drastically changes, it seems unlikely that Leonard will be back next season.
