Kelly Oubre knee injury reportedly diagnosed as torn meniscus

Kelly Oubre

Kelly Oubre Jr missed Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers due to a knee injury, and it sounds like he may be out for a lengthy period of time going forward.

Oubre underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed he has a torn meniscus in his right knee, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports. The Phoenix Suns swingman is planning to seek a second opinion from a specialist.

Oubre could be out for the remainder of the season depending on the severity of the tear.

It’s unclear when Oubre suffered the injury, as their were no signs of any issues in Monday’s win over the Utah Jazz. Head coach Monty Williams said on Wednesday that the team just learned about the injury the day before.

“I don’t want to speculate,” Williams said, per Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic. “The information is still fluid. I’ll find out more. We just found out (Tuesday). I’m still trying to figure out when it happened and what contributed to it.”

Oubre is having a solid season after signing a two-year, $30 million deal with the Suns last summer. He’s averaging 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and scored a career-high 39 points in a win over the Houston Rockets earlier this month. Phoenix is 24-35 on the year.
