Kevin Durant is speaking out on the triumph of his former NBA team.

The Oklahoma City Thunder won the 2024-25 NBA championship with a 103-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday. In front of their home crowd at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, O.K., the Thunder swung the game with a third quarter in which they outscored Indiana by a 34-20 margin. As a result, they won their first NBA title since moving to OKC in 2008.

In a post to his X page, Durant reacted to the Thunder victory. During the trophy presentation ceremony after the game, OKC big man Isaiah Hartenstein was shown on the ESPN broadcast holding his young son, who was fast asleep. Durant posted about the funny moment and also worked in a brief congrats to the Thunder.

“Lil Hartenstein is slumped,” wrote Durant along with three laughing-face emojis. “congrats Okc.”

Durant began his career with the Thunder franchise, having been drafted by them in 2007 when they were still the Seattle SuperSonics. Upon the team’s move to OKC in 2008, Durant became the face of their franchise, winning four scoring titles with the Thunder, leading the team to the 2012 NBA Finals along with Russell Westbrook and James Harden, and winning an MVP award in 2014.

But OKC fans still have hard feelings for Durant over the way that he left in free agency before the 2016-17 season to sign with the rival Golden State Warriors, who had just come off a 73-win season. Durant, who ended up winning two championships with the Warriors, later opened up about the poor treatment he received from Thunder fans upon his departure and stated that he would never be attached to the city again.

On Sunday night though, Durant was in enough of a giving mood to offer a quick congrats to the Thunder. But come next season, Durant will be trying to knock off OKC in the Western Conference as a member of the Houston Rockets, who just acquired Durant in a blockbuster trade earlier in the day on Sunday.
