Knicks fans organizing protest for March 19

James-DolanThe New York Knicks are one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, and their fans have grown tired of it. After losing in the Eastern Conference semifinals last year, the Knicks have compiled a lowly 21-40 record this season. A group of fans are planning to display their disgust later this month.

A Facebook page called “KF4L (Knicks Fans For Life) Rally Page” has been started by a group of Knicks fans and already has over 1,000 likes. The group has organized a protest of team owner James Dolan’s handling of the franchise to take place on March 19 in front of Madison Square Garden.

The organizers of the protest, Knicks fans Michael Brown, Anthony Samaroo and Mark Griffin, have been promoting the rally on social media. They wrote an email to Marc Berman of the NY Post explaining the protest.

“Dolan’s failure to allow knowledgeable basketball people the autonomy/power to make basketball related decisions…,” they explained. “His insistence on overriding the opinions of his basketball people by bidding against himself in negotiations and overpaying in trades.”

The organizers singled out general manager Steve Mills and ripped Dolan for rehiring him after he oversaw “one of the most embarrassing eras in Knicks history.”

“We understand Dolan will not sell,” the statement concluded. “We understand change may not come of this. We just want our voices heard. We want to remind Dolan and the NBA that our voices matter. We buy the tickets, the jerseys, the NBA League Pass subscriptions. We are frustrated. We are tired. We deserve better.”

Maybe Carmelo Anthony should show up and hold a sign.

Hopefully the protesters have more luck than those Miami Marlins fans did a little over a year ago when they organized that rally — if you want to call it that. Considering it’s New York, I’m sure the turnout will be slightly better.
