NBA reporter Shams Charania leaving Yahoo Sports

Shams Charania

Shams Charania may soon be dropping his #Shamswows for another media outlet.

Charania’s contract with Yahoo Sports is expiring this summer, and the outlet confirmed that the NBA reporter will not be back with them.

“Yes, we can confirm Shams’ departure for later this summer,” Yahoo’s Geoff Reiss said in a statement, via Awful Announcing. “We take pride in how far Shams has come in his 3 years at Yahoo Sports. He has been a great member of our Yahoo Sports team, breaking news and giving fans great perspective. We made the decision to walk away from negotiations. We will continue to discover and develop emerging talent as our track record proves.”

New York Post media reporter Andrew Marchand mentions The Athletic and NBC Sports as potential landing spots for the 24-year-old.

Charania has truly emerged in the sports media business. He was hired by Adrian Wojnarowski to be a part of “The Vertical” at Yahoo. After Woj left for ESPN, Charania found himself competing with Woj and often keeping up if not beating Woj on breaking news stories.

Now one of the preeminent NBA reporters, the addition of Charania would be a big boost for any media outlet.
