The NBA did not need long to decide on discipline for Serge Ibaka for his fight with Marquese Chriss on Monday night.
Ibaka has been suspended three games and Chriss one for their fight during the Cleveland Cavaliers-Toronto Raptors game. Ibaka was seen going after Chriss and putting his hands to Chriss’ throat. The two then exchanged punches.
Ibaka’s role as the initiator and main aggressor, along with his history, likely contributed to his harsher punishment. This is his third fight in three seasons as he also threw punches with James Johnson in 2018 and Robin Lopez in 2017.
Ibaka will miss Thursday’s game against the Lakers, Sunday’s in Detroit, and Monday’s game against the Knicks.
