Luka Doncic may be having a recurrence of the 2024 NBA postseason.
The Los Angeles Lakers star Doncic is playing through “a lot of pain” at the moment, Ashish Mathur of Lakers Daily reported on Saturday. Mathur notes that Doncic is dealing with a left elbow injury as well as pain in both of his legs.
Furthermore, Doncic is said to be undergoing “around-the-clock treatment” in order to be able to suit up for the Lakers. You can read Mathur’s full report on the situation here.
Doncic, 27, certainly has not looked like a compromised player thus far this season. In fact, he is averaging an NBA-leading 33.6 points to go along with 8.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game.
But Doncic has already missed a handful of contests due to calf, groin, and finger injuries, appearing in a modest 25 of a possible 32 games for the Lakers so far this season. With Austin Reaves likely out for another month or so due to a calf problem of his own and LeBron James now 41 years old and having recently overcome a sciatica injury, that is obviously not what the Lakers want to hear with Doncic just over a couple of months into the season.
The five-time All-Star Doncic is a player who is known to be able to persevere through injuries to continue to play at an elite level. But Doncic’s banged-up physical state may be manifesting itself in other ways instead right now such as through his low defensive effort (which Doncic has recently drawn sharp criticism for).
