Floyd Mayweather Sr. guarantees son will fight Manny Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather Sr. said this week that he is certain a fight between his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Manny Pacquiao will be taking place at some point in the near future.

“That fight’s gonna happen. Trust me. That fight’s definitely gonna happen,” Floyd Sr. said in an interview with fighthype.com. “It’s a fight for the world, man, right there. It’s the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said man, that fight’s gonna happen.

“I’ma tell you right now, (Mayweather Jr.) never told me the fight’s gonna happen, but I’ma tell you, the fight’s gonna happen. You mark my words and we’ll see. And it needs to happen. Just like (Muhammad) Ali and Joe Frazier, or Ali and George Foreman, something like that, man, it’s one of those fights like that. The world wants to see it and they’ll want to see it again when Floyd beats Pacquiao.”

Mayweather Sr. specified multiple times that his son did not tell him the fight is going to happen. Mayweather Jr. has two fights remaining on his Showtime deal and has said he plans to retire when the contract is up. He’s 47-0 in his career, so some have speculated that Mayweather could end up fighting Pacquiao for No. 50 (after his Showtime deal expires) and then calling it a career.

“Well, it might be number 49,” Mayweather Sr. said. “Floyd’s gonna kick his little ass.”

Unfortunately, this is the same story we have heard for years. Mayweather expressed a willingness to fight Pacquiao last month and the two fighters have been trading trash talk ever since. There are a number of reasons the superfight has never happened and probably never will happen, with the main one being a disagreement over pay-per-view money.
